Skip McFarlane is the IT manager for Academic Extension at the University of Oregon. He is responsible for managing a team that works in a variety of areas related to Academic Extension’s IT needs, including: desktop and software support, online course support, account management, budget and expense tracking, hardware and software procurement, file share, data access, and backup systems. Skip is also the local high risk equipment manager, active directory administrator, Microsoft Exchange administrator, UO credentialing agent and telecom coordinator for AE. Additionally, Skip works to ensure that AE follows UO policies related to IT and data classification and access, and works in a variety of partnerships and committees between IT units and numerous departments on campus.
Skip completed his MFA from the University of Oregon in 1998, where he also began teaching for the Visual Design (now Digital Arts) program—approximately 19 years. He first began working with Continuing Education (now Academic Extension) while teaching self-support workshops through AAA. In 2006, Skip was hired as the technical support coordinator for AE where he provided support for online courses and general support for staff and faculty associated with Academic Extension.
